“Life is a journey that must be travelled no matter how bad the roads and accommodations“
– Oliver Goldsmith
This is an innovative approach to professional counselling. We observed that traditional counselling session usually triggers anxiety and discomfort due to the clinical-like environment. So, we decided to transform this experience into in-car therapy sessions. Imagine receiving therapeutic intervention while travelling around the city to a specific destination and back. This cutting-edge technique combines psychology, conservation and car to build something actually valuable and amazing. Whether it is a slow drive to a local park or moving to your childhood home to reflect on any essential moment, our aim is to provide imaginative and beneficial counselling. Illustrate yourself moving at a therapeutic pace, with the assumption of sentimental scenery, while engaging in meaningful conversation.
“Stop worrying about the potholes in the road and enjoy the journey”
―Babs Hoffman
A New Direction in Mental Health Supports
You know? The heart of therapy is the connection, not the room where it takes place. In-car therapy reveals that healing is possible anywhere as long as there is understanding and a sense of belonging. Healing also reflects the trust between counsellor and client, which is a psychological term termed as therapeutic alliances. Peoples who finds traditional therapy overwhelming, this little shift in environment could make a huge difference. It can convert your frightening experience into a comfortable one, and you can easily open up the things that you never thought you could. The in-car therapy session creates a warm and non-judgmental space, where your client can speak freely and feel supported. It is all from the comfort of a seat that feels familiar.
Sometimes healing does not need a room.
Sometimes it just needs a safe space with a person who listens.
Are you worried about?
Your safety- The car stays parked in a safe and designated location. Therapists offering these services are fully trained and insured.
“Two roads diverged in a wood and I – I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference”
– Robert Frost
Will people see you? No one knows why you are there. It looks like a normal meeting or conversation in a car parked anywhere. It is much more private than entering a counselling office.
What if you get emotional? The car is a safe, contained space. It is very common for people to cry or express emotions. There will be a black mirror on the car, so you will not be observed by anyone. Your therapist will support you with empathy and care.
Temperature- We know that sun exposure is the key problem here. If you are sitting in the front of the car, the sunlight possibly reflects on you and irritates you. In that case, consider moving to the backseat for the session; it can give you more comfort and extra leg space. On the other hand, you can close windows or draw the curtains for additional protection from the sun. The best way to avoid sun exposure is to choose an area away from the sun where you feel comfortable having the windows open a bit for air.
“When all’s said and done, all roads lead to the same end. So it’s not so much which road you take, as how you take it.”
―Charles de Lin
Why This Approach Is Growing
Today’s life is busy. Stress levels are high. Most people delay therapy for years just because therapeutic rooms make them anxious. They do not feel comfortable opening up in a formal environment. In-car therapy offers
- Comfort
- Anonymity
- Simplicity
- Emotional Safety
- Welcoming space for newbies
It removes barriers and makes therapy more accessible, especially for those who might never try counselling otherwise. For some, the first step into mental health support is the hardest. A parked car can feel like a gentle doorway rather than a big leap.
“Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life.”
– Jack Kerouac
Therapeutic Work Still Happens, Just in a Softer Way
Although the setting is different, therapy is still professional. Everything you discuss is confidential, and your therapist follows all the ethical rules just like in a normal counselling room. The only change is the feeling, not the quality. Peoples who ever take in a car session explains that:
“I opened up more because I felt relaxed”
“I was not scared to talk about difficult things”
“The side-by-side seating made me feel supported not judged”
In-car therapy does not replace traditional therapy, but it adds another choice; however, it is the best option for most people.
“Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”
―T.S. Eliot
What happens if it does not work for you?
If you feel unsatisfied during the session, you can end the session at any time. Simply ask your therapist to end this conversation, and the therapist will drop you off at your drop-off step. But note that if you decide to cancel the session before it starts, then you have to notify us 24 hours before your scheduled session. So we can manage the process seamlessly. Just feel free to get in touch if you need any further adjustment and clarification.
